We had a blast last weekend photographing Liza's amazing Bat Mitzvah. The event was held at the iconic Canyon Club concert venue in Agoura Hills and was a wonderful combination of tradition, with music, energy, family and friends. Erica from Events by Erica did a fantastic job bringing in an South East Asian/Indian vibe to the decor. It perfectly complimented the eclectic energy of the venue.

I was thrilled to cap off 2011 with this fantastic afternoon spent with the adorable Christie and Dean.

They are two of the sweetest people, and it's such a joy to be around them and their radiant energy. Their love has already survived a long distance relationship while Dean is away in the military. The strength and connection they share is inspiring.

I can't wait to photograph their wedding this June in Pacific Palisades and Marina Del Rey.

The couple's Starbucks cups became the perfect prop. Not only does the couple have a shard love of coffee but check out the wording on the cup. Thanks Starbucks!

I really enjoyed photographing this family in the comfort of their own home for their holiday card. The pink "Love" canvases were handpainted by Nicole, the mom, and provided such a colorful, bold backdrop for this shoot. Every year Nicole comes up with the best concepts for her shoots and cards and this year was no exception!

I especially loved the playful masks Nicole and kids wanted to wear. What a great tribute to the one and only Groucho Marx!

Dizzying Fun in the Backyard

Last year I photographed this family of six (seven if you include Judah the family dog) at the beach (see the top banner for a photo), and this year we decided to capture the kids in their element at home and in their neighborhood.

I loved the tire swing in their backyard, and Levi had a blast twisting and turning the swing with his sisters. I forgot how fun and dizzying those can be!

Celebrating the New Year at the Beach

Only in California can you find a warm and breezy day at the beach in late autumn! This is our fifth year photographing Amanda, David, Sophie and Olivia, and we couldn't have asked for more gorgeous weather that day. It's been so fun to watch the girls grow up since we started their photos at 10-days old for each of them!

We loved the accessories the girls wore to the photoshoot, especially the fun strings of pearls and the soft and delicate pink headband.

Fall Fun with Brad, Heather and Chase {Dayton, Ohio Family Photography}

I spent the Thanksgiving holiday with my fiance's family in Dayton, Ohio. I got to spend some quality time with his nephew, Chase on his 1st birthday, and his parents (my future brother and sister-in-law Brad and Heather). We experienced a perfect autumn day, and our photo shoot benefited from the crisp but not so cold weather.

Shooting in Ohio was a nice change in scenery--the landscape of the area made me realize what the seasons actually look like when they are in transition!

Jeff, Jamia and the Twins: One Year Later {Santa Monica Family Photography}

I can't believe a year has gone by already! I have been photographing Jeff, Jamia, Grant and Lila for a few years now but it's quite remarkable how much the twins have grown in the last year since I saw them. They are just as cute and adorable as when I started photographing them when they were one-year old... so crazy that they just turned 4 last week!

Mayor unveils new Los Angeles sculputre and garden

Los Angeles sculptor Jonathan Bickart had a new piece unveiled yesterday by LA's Mayor Villaraigosa.

Fun fact: Did you know that George Washington Carver discovered 300 uses for peanuts and hundreds more for soybeans, pecans and sweet potatoes?

I had the honor to attend and photograph the ribbon cutting of the new community garden and Jonathan Bickart's Carver sculpture at George Washington Carver Middle School in Los Angeles. Athena Demos and LA Burning Man organized the design and production of this beautiful new garden space. LA's Mayor Villaraigosa attended along with students, teachers and community members. Groups of students took guests on tours of the garden space and explained the different areas and what is being planned seasonally.

Bickart, an institution in the LA sculpture scene was commissioned to do the portrait of George Washington Carver as a focal piece to the new garden. His Steampunk inspired take on the portrait reflect Carver's innovations. Bickart has a number of scultpures around the city including his statue of Griffith J. Griffth at the base of Griffith Park.

The Carver Garden Alliance is a collaboration between Burners Without Borders and the LA League of Arts. Here's a quote from them on the project, "Our goal is to show children, parents, and community members how they can create food, joy, and abundance from almost nothing, by choosing to look a the world around them differently."

What a splendid tribute to Carver and his long-lasting contributions to science and agriculture!

David, Einstein the dog and their parents, Katie and Shaun, are one of those families that radiates joy and love.

Katie is a friend from back in our high school days when we used to carpool together to Marlborough School. I had the best time spending the afternoon with her and her family. Not only is David a speedy little runner, he's also fluent in Russian (well as fluent as a 16 month old can be)! Very impressive.

Pumpkins and sunflowers {Los Angeles Family Photographer}

I am officially obsessed with all things pumpkins. I love when fall rolls around because I have the opportunity to order all the fantastic pumpkin themed things that make this season amazing... from Starbucks' Pumpkin Spiced Latte (I'm drinking one right now) to delicious pumpkin ravioli (a personal favorite of mine is from Fritto Misto in Santa Monica) to pumpkin ice cream.

So when Meg from La Partie Events suggested that we do her family's photo session at a pumpkin patch this year I jumped at the idea. Meg has one of the best design eyes I know so it was no surprise that she styled the wardrobe perfectly. From all of Reese's fantastic outfits changes to her little touches of Kate Spade, the color palate worked perfectly.

Palm Fronds, Sand & a New Puppy

I always love having the opportunity to photograph this awesome family. The kids have grown up so much since our photo session last year, it's so fun to see their personalities develop.

Plus they had just welcomed a new puppy--Barnaby--two days prior to the shoot, and he looked right at home with Mom, Dad and the kids. What a cutie!

I had a blast shooting the kids running in the sand, playing with Barnaby and going on a treasure hunt with Dad and Mom... the secret bounty... root beer!

I had such a lovely time photographing Shannon and John's reception celebrating their recent nuptials. Thank you for offering us a gorgeous flower arrangement from your beautiful event to take home. We proudly displayed it on the coffee table in our office, and we enjoyed the vibrancy it brought to the room. It even matched our colorful decor!

The arrangement was created by Drew Domenghini at Patterson's Florals in Pasadena. The overall look for the event was produced by coordinator Robin Sonner at the beautiful Los Angeles Country Club.

Sophie and Olivia {Santa Monica Family Photography}

I seriously have the best job. I get to spend fun afternoons with wonderful families and capture all the little everyday moments that normally just fly by.

I've had the opportunity to do photos every few months for Sophie and Olivia since they were each in mommy's tummy. Every time I see the girls they light up the room. They are both brimming with energy and giggles. Their mom, Amanda is one of the most positive and inspiring people I know. She shares this joy with everyone around her and with her readers of her fabulous blog, Voices to Share.

Nichol and I met at the Jonathan Bickart's amazing Sculpture Studio in Santa Monica (where I have been doing figurative sculpture for years.) We had a great time on our urban adventure shoot as we wandered around the studio and made use of some fantastic backdrops (like these amazing ivy covered brick and distressed paint walls). The studio is such a creative space it was fun to take it outside for some portrait photography!

Sneak Peak: Alyson & Morgan

Alyson and Morgan surprised the guests to their celebration Saturday when they revealed that the event was not just an engagement party... they were in fact going to get married... right there and then!

The reactions from the crowd were rounds of applause, some dropped jaws and tears of joy. It was so fun to be there to document it!

The event was held at the beautiful Cecconi's a West Hollywood restaurant where the couple have spent many a date night.

The first photo was taken right before the couple left their getting ready suite at The Peninsula Hotel. In the second image Alyson, Morgan and their families soak in the moment under the "pop-up" chuppah right before the ceremony commences. The third image was taken after the ceremony when the couple stepped outside to have a quite moment together.

Daniel's Bar Mitzvah

Congratulations to Daniel on his Bar Mitzvah!

The event was a fantastic day hosted by his parents in their lovely backyard. The ocean and city vista was a perfect backdrop to the ceremony and a night of fun and dancing (on a see through dance floor covering the swimming pool!) Guests were also entertained by a close-up magician, arcade games, foosball and a flip photo booth.

The love and energy of this group of family and friends was a joy to be around.

Reagan turns 3 {San Francisco Family Photography}

One of the best parts about doing photography is getting to meet wonderful families and getting to know them as they grow over the years (while documenting the memories!)

I first met this awesome family when I photographed Reagan's first birthday back in 2009. I was excited this past fall when we had another first birthday celebration for little sister Leighton. Now that Reagan was turning three we were really excited to be there to capture her day.

The party was a bouncing success and held at the House of Air in San Francisco... a giant space covered in trampolines... so fun!

Cole {Manhattan Beach Family Photography}

OK, so I can't express fully how completely adorable baby Cole is... so I'll let the pictures speak for themselves!

Cole, is 6 months old and brimming with smiles. It was so nice to get to know this wonderful family!

Renee's Bat Mitzvah

We had a blast photographing Renee's Bat Mitzvah recently. The service and morning reception were held in the beautiful Kehillat Israel Temple in Pacific Palisades. Renee's mom Mary works in interior design so it was no surprise that she was able to create simply stunning decor. The color palette of orange, turquoise, and yellow was so energetic and delightful. The addition of live goldfish to the centerpieces was genius and provided a conversation piece for everyone!

Mary was able to take the centerpieces from the morning reception and reinvent them into a jungle theme for the evening kid's party. She transformed the industrial sounds stage space into a modern jungle by bringing animal prints, palm fronds, and birds of paradise in conjunction with bamboo bar tables and sleek modern couch seating.

I had a great time in Ohio this past week with my boyfriend Ryan visiting his family... and meeting his brand new nephew Chase!

Chase is just beyond adorable and it was so fun to watch Ryan's brother Brad as a beaming proud daddy. The "other child," dog Toni, was checking the baby out... still not quite sure of her thoughts on her new competition! I love the way she kept close a close watchful eye on mommy Heather.

We had to sneak in some firefighting items just in case Chase chooses to follow in his daddy's footsteps!

Jen + Ward

It is a rare treat to have friends who have been in your life for 25 years. Jennifer and Jenna are two of those friends to me. (We met in kindergarten!) So when the opportunity came up for Jenna and I to be there to document Jennifer and Ward's wedding celebration we were super excited.

Jennifer and Ward are the kind of power couple who inspire all those around them with their intelligence, drive, passion and overall awesomeness! After eight years of long distance they are both living in the same city (happily it's my city... Los Angeles!)

The weekend's celebrations were a wonderful tribute to their past, friends and family and their future. The ceremony was held in the morning on the Berkeley campus (where the couple met.) Family and friends gathered in celebration at the Brazilian Room in the Berkeley hills that evening for dinner and dancing.

Jennifer and Ward put a lot of personal touches into the day. The cities of their past long distance relationships were reflected in the cupcakes (with a frosting nod to each city they have lived in!) The travel theme carried into the place cards and printed materials designed as telegrams, ticket stubs and passports (designed by Jennifer's talented cousin Keitra.) I also love the way they incorporated a few on their favorite quotes on the napkins! Jennifer's friends Leslie and Lara put together awesome personalized details for the getting ready morning.

The night ended with tons of dancing! Thanks to everyone for making it such a wonderful weekend!

Zuma Beach Malibu Wedding: Stacy + Kevin

The ceremony was a gathering on the sand at Zuma Beach. The couple's friend performed the ceremony and it was wonderfully heartfelt and personal. The reception was held in the beautiful Sunset Restaurant.

I loved how the day was so personal to Stacy and Kevin and involved so many of their close friends and family. The beach setting provided a relaxing Southern California vibe. And to top it off we got so lucky with an awesome sunset and fantastic weather! Gotta love So Cal.

Venice Art Crawl

I'm excited to have been asked to show some of my fine art photography at this month's Venice Art Crawl! Small World Books (a wonderful bookstore on the Venice boardwalk) is presenting a show of art work done by the Kleinman women (and Colbert man). The show consists of some of my photography work, my super talented mother's fiber art quilts, my sister Courtney's paintings and her fiance Paul's photography. Yep, that's right I come from a family of mulit-disciplinary artists!

The show will be debuting at the Venice Art Crawl this Thursday evening. The work will be up for a month. If you are in the Venice area swing by to check out the art, the bookstore, and the rest of the gallery crawl!

A Wayfayers Chapel Wedding: Shari + Tray

I had a fantastic time photographing Shari and Tray's wedding at the beautiful Wayfayer's Chapel. The chapel is constructed out of glass and sits under a canopy of trees on a cliff on the southern edge of Rancho Palos Verdes. It's stunning to say the least. The energy and love of this awesomely adorable couple radiated from the space.

The reception at Norris Pavilion came alive with the energetic music of the live jazz band and DJ.

Happy Mother's Day: Four Generations

I want to wish you all a very happy Mother's Day! I'm so lucky in my job that I get to meet so many amazing mothers.

It is truly inspiring for me to interact with so many fantastic ladies...

To kick off Mother's Day I wanted to share a photo from a recent photo shoot that documents four (yes, four!) generations of wonderful women. This photo has special significance for me because the matriarch in the center of the photo is none other than my Grandma Clara! Clara continues to define the term "exemplary woman." At nearly 85 she is so full of energy, passion and life; she makes a positive impression on everyone she meets. I can only hope that some of her awesomeness is genetic and I will somehow absorb some!

The photo also pictures my aunt, my cousin's wife, their two beautiful little girls, and her mother. Baby Olivia is only ten days old in this picture!

The Lebowitz/Katz Photo Day

When Amanda said she wanted to do a joint photo session with her good friend Gina--who is also pregnant and due around the same time--I thought combining the sessions would be great! It turned into a fantastic photo filled afternoon complete with belly painting and delicious snacks (thanks Debbie!).

Having the kids finger paint on mom's pregnant belly is one of my favorite things to do. It's super fun for the kids, because let's face it what kid doesn't like the opportunity to paint on mom's tummy! I love that Noah ended up just as covered in paint as mom when everything was done.

I have had so much fun photographing Sophie since she was 10 days old, I look forward to meeting her new little sister!

Elizabeth and Julia

This is the first time I've had a three year old consistently offer to help me carry my photo equipment around. I think Elizabeth may be a new photographer in training! I had a great time taking the 6 month-old shots of little sis Julia. She is one of the happiest babies I've met. Always smiling seems generally content with the world.

I started doing pictures of big sis Elizabeth when she was 6 months old (then again at a year, and at 18 months). Click HERE to see some of the past pictures.

It's so fun to see Juila at the age when I first met Elizabeth and see the similarities (and differences) between them!

I don't know about you but I am a huge fan of freshly baked cookies and ice cold milk. So rather than baking I figured I would indulge myself (and you) with a scrumptious picture instead! (It's almost as good right!)

Luz, Gaby, Maggie & Allison

When Gaby approached me with the idea of giving a portrait session to her mom for her birthday I thought it was a fantastic gift idea. We of course included their adorable pooches Maggie and Allison. The dogs are so full of energy and personality, they were a blast to photograph!

We went on a walk around Cal State Northridge (Gaby's alma mater). Having not been there in years it was fun to explore the orange groves and the beautiful campus.

Maslowe, Hutchens and Graydon

It was a pleasure to see Maslowe, Hutchens and Graydon last week. The twins have grown so big since our last photo shoot this past fall! Graydon is such a sweet big brother and a great helper (he was acting as my photo assistant for the shoot!) He's grown into such a little man since our first photo shoot in the fall of 2008.

Here's a photo of the twins from their newborn session this past October. They were only two weeks old here!

Expecting her baby girl

I had a great time over at my friend Nui's today. After enjoying some delicious home-made noodles (yes Nui made them!) we had fun snapping some maternity pictures. Nui felt comfortable and beautiful in her own custom dress. Her line, Design by Nui dresses, are favorites amongst celebrities and are one-size-fits-all... for one or two occupants! :)

An afternoon at home

I had a blast spending the afternoon with this adorable family recently. From Ellie squealing with excitement as her dad spun her around the yard to Julia and Sophie (the dog) experiencing their first lolly pops the afternoon was full of fantastic moments. Watching the girls sitting around the table drawing took me back to my childhood with my two sisters and our countless afternoons spent crafting... and the family baking cookies together... ADORABLE!

Brides.com DIY Project Collaboration

I was thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with the always inspiring floral designed Megan Fickling of La Partie Events. She was asked to design a DIY center piece for a feature on Brides.com.

I photographed Megan demonstrating how to recreate this simple and elegant Mason jar arrangement. To do this yourself all you need is a jar of pasta sauce a few flowers and a ribbon! Click here to see the full feature.

Max & Jack

Max and Jack are the most adorable duo of brothers. They have the sweetest personalities and are just down right fun!

From spinning on their Wurlybird Flyer to cruising in their mini Escalade they were excited to explore together. Even when their car ran out of batteries big brother Max hopped right out to push the car back home!

Welcoming Macklin

I have the best job... I get to spend time with amazing families and have the honor of seeing them year after year and documenting as they grow. I was super excited this past weekend to meet the newest member of the family, Macklin. At just under a month old Macklin is already a head turner with his awesome red hair!

They kids have all grown so much since their last photo session in the park this past fall. It's been so much fun to do their family photos for the past five years!

Thank you to the girls who colored some beautiful pictures and gave them to me as a parting gift!

Over the years that I know and been photographing Emma one thing that has never changed is her love of dancing. This girl was born to move! She's one of those people that just brings a smile to your face instantly... (I seriously had a smile plastered on my face during the whole shoot!) So much fun!

Santa Ynez wine country + beautiful autumn night + moonlight + wonderful couple + fantastic guests = magical.

Here's a sneak peak of one of my favorite shots from the wedding. I love the old Hollywood film still quality. So timeless. You can't beat a romantic kiss under a full moon in the middle of a vineyard.
